Lumen or Schoology—What is the difference and which one do I choose?

Lumen is our district’s Student Information System(SIS).  It contains demographic (address, guardian, emergency contacts) information on your student, also, it lists their grades, lunch fees, registration fees, and student schedules.  The parent logon information is given during registration. 

Schoology is our district’s Learning Management System (LMS).  The teachers use this program to communicate with students.  Students are automatically signed up for this when school starts.  Parents have an option to sign up for this by contacting the school.  The students can view their assignments, schedules, announcements, feedback on assignments submitted, and a calendar with upcoming dates.  Teachers also use Schoology to give online tests, make resources available to students (rather than giving them a paper copy), have students submit homework in digital form and email.   The grades that students see in Schoology are for assignments submitted online.  To view the current grade for the class, Lumen is the source parents and students need to use.

In the future, we hope to have Lumen and Schoology be able to sync information like grades and assignments.   However, right now parents need to rely on Lumen to have the correct grades posted
