Superintendent's Bio

Education

Dr. Daniel L Oakley grew up in southern Illinois just north of Newton, Illinois. He graduated from Newton Community High School in 1982 and completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics (Education) at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston Illinois in 1986. He received his Masters of Science degree in Educational Administration from Western Illinois University in Macomb Illinois in 1997, and his Education Specialist certification from WIU in 2007. He completed his doctorate in Educational Leadership at Western Illinois University in the spring of 2015 with the dissertation: "Illinois Public School Superintendents: Influencing State-Level Education Legislation and Policy-Making in Illinois." Dr. Oakley is one of three superintendents currently working in the state of Illinois who graduated from NCHS.

Family
Dr. Oakley and Beth were married in 1991. Beth is an administrative professional in the office of the Mayor and City Manager for the City of Bloomington, IL. They have raised two children, Andy (married to Callie) and Amy (married to Curtis). Andy and Callie are geologists for Anadarko Oil in Denver, CO, and were joined by grandson Maddox in the spring of 2016. Amy is a Crime Scene Technician in Lakewood, CO, and Curtis works for Swedish Medical Center in Littleton, CO. They are the parents of grandchildren Kaeson (2012) and Kairi (2015).

Hobbies
Dr. Oakley's hobbies are music (both listening and singing), reading, writing, and watching baseball, as well as giving the family pets - a Himalayan cat and a Shichon puppy - lots of attention.
